Advent and Lent Wednesdays

On Wednesday nights during Advent and Lent, FLC gathers for a light soup and salad dinner at 6:00 pm at a local restaurant, followed by a time of meditative reflection at 7:00 pm at the church. (There is no dinner on Ash Wednesday.)

These services offer a basic liturgy and a relaxed environment to help us reflect on the themes of the season. Scripture readings typically connect with either the preceding or following Sunday’s readings.

The season of advent begins four Sundays before Christmas. Advent (meaning “coming”) prepares us to celebrate Christ’s coming at Christmas, and to anticipate Christ’s continual coming into our lives and our world.

The season of lent (meaning “spring”) begins on Ash Wednesday, forty days before Easter (not counting Sundays). Lent began as a period of training for new Christians before their baptism. Through the centuries, it has grown into a season for all Christians to reflect upon their faith in Christ. Lent invites us to explore how God intends for us to live as God’s people in God’s world.

FLC follows the church year, including special worship services for Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter, and Christmas Eve.
