As we start our Lenten journey this year, we look to this week’s Gospel lesson of Christ’s 40 days and 40 nights in the wilderness. He knew suffering in his life. He knew hunger. He knew temptation. He knows our greatest weaknesses, and he is here to help us through push through them.

In today’s Gospel lesson we hear what have come to be known as the Beatitudes. Each of us is Blessed. Each of us is a precious and beloved child of God. We are each, in our own way, a living embodiment of the Beatitudes.

In this week’s Gospel we hear the story of Jesus calling his first disciples, the fishermen Andrew, Peter, James, and John, to “fish for people”. Little did they know what they were signing up for, but I suspect that they would not have changed their choice. Sometimes you just have to jump in.
