Today’s Gospel lesson finds Jesus in a boat with his disciples. A windstorm comes up, threatening to swamp the boat. The disciples rush to wake Jesus, who is sleeping, saying “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” (Mark 4:38). Jesus calms the winds and the seas and asks, “Why are you afraid? Have you still no faith?” (Mark 4:40).

How often do we have little faith in the face of problems? Don’t be afraid. God is there for you.

In today’s Second Reading, Saint Paul writes, “For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.”

Let that light shine bright in each of us! For where there is light, there is hope.
