Today is Easter Sunday, the day we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection from death, breaking the power of sin in our lives. Sort of our Re-Birthday.

For this special day, we will be celebrating together as a whole congregation, with a single service beginning at 10:00 AM. An Easter brunch and Easter Egg hunt will immediately follow the service. All are welcome!

In this week’s Gospel lesson, Jesus points towards his coming death and resurrection in his interaction with Mary and Judas Iscariot. Lent also points us to Jesus’ suffering and death, but most of all to His resurrection on Easter Sunday. Hold fast to the path that leads to the cross, the path that leads to everlasting life.

In this week’s Gospel reading we hear again the story of the prodigal son. Who do you most relate to when you read this parable? The father? The younger son? The older son? Perhaps all?

On our life journey, we may encounter, or become, all of them.

In this third Sunday in Lent, we pray for our brothers and sisters in Ukraine, and for all those caught in conflicts around the world. We also pray for those who seek to bully or impose their beliefs on others by force. May the Spirit of God work to soften their hearts.

As we begin another Lenten journey this week, we see in today’s Gospel lesson the devil tempting Jesus. We too have our devils in this world, some human, some not. Know that as we walk through our dark places, Jesus is with us. And he’s been tempted in ways that we can only imagine.

Today’s Gospel lesson is the origin of the phrase “turn the other cheek”. Sounds good in theory, but oh, so hard to do. We are all faced with situations where our capacity to love is sorely tested. Follow the voice of Jesus, the voice of hope and love.
