Second Worship Service

As Jesus reminds us this week in Mark’s Gospel, “For it is from within, from the human heart, that evil intentions come.” This week, let us each search our hearts, reject the evil and find the good that is also there. Then share that good with the world.

Second Worship Service

The apostle Peter was capable, like many of us, of both moments of complete clarity and moments of total blindness. In today’s Gospel lesson we hear one of those sudden bursts of insight from Peter. When Jesus asked the disciples “Do you wish to go away?”, Peter responded, “Lord, to whom can we go? You have the words of eternal life.”

Sometimes the simplest of responses can hold the key to the most amazing of gifts.

In this week’s Gospel lesson we hear again the beautiful and life giving words of John 6:35, “Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life, Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.'”

In this week’s Gospel we hear again two examples of Christ’s divinity and of his humanity. He feeds the crowd who has come to hear him, knowing they were hungry and would have difficulty finding food for such a large group. And he walks on the water to join his disciples in a wave tossed boat. He knew they were frightened. He calmed their fears.

Christ knows our own needs and fears. We only have to believe in Him and trust in His love and care.

In today’s readings, Jesus is shown as the Good Shepherd, having compassion on the people who had come to him seeking comfort, seeking healing, seeking direction. Even today, his flock continues to seek Him, to hear his voice, to find peace in His presence.

Follow the Shepherd. Find your inner sheep.
